Character and metabolism: a link that affects health

Experts from Florida State University have identified an interesting relationship between a person's character, metabolic rate and overall health in old age. In a four-year study, 642 participants, whose average age was 67, were analyzed to find out how personality traits affected their aerobic capacity and physical endurance.

The results showed that anxious people, who are prone to mood swings, have slower metabolism, which affects their performance on exercise tests. In turn, they exhibited less endurance. In contrast, extroverts with a more open personality were more enduring and expended less energy when performing motor tests.

These results confirm that a person's personality traits play a significant role not only in behavioral aspects, but also in physiological processes such as metabolism. The study shows that these factors can influence health and possibly life expectancy.

Importantly, this study reveals new frontiers in understanding the relationship between psychological personality traits and physiological parameters. It provides a basis for further research and emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive approach to health assessment, including not only physical but also psychological aspects.

These findings highlight the need for a personalized approach to health care, taking into account individual personality traits. The design of health support programs should take into account not only the physical condition but also the psychological characteristics of each individual.

Thus, this finding opens new perspectives for medicine, allowing a better understanding of how a person's inner world influences his or her overall well-being and longevity.
