In recent decades, more and more women have become moms at the age of 35-40. While this used to be considered late, today doctors are increasingly talking about the possible benefits of late childbirth for women's health.
Studies show that the age of last childbirth may have an impact on the risk of certain diseases. In particular, scientists from the University of Southern California School of Medicine found that late pregnancy reduces the likelihood of cancer of the endometrium - the inner lining of the uterus.
Specialists have studied the data of more than 8 thousand women diagnosed with endometrial cancer and compared them with the indicators of 16 thousand healthy patients. It turned out that women who gave birth after 30 years of age, the risk of developing the disease is noticeably lower. For example, those who became moms in 30-34 years, faced this diagnosis by 17% less often, in 35-39 years - 32% less often, and those who gave birth in 40 years and later, the risk was lower by 44% compared to those who gave birth before 25 years.
Researchers attribute this effect to hormonal changes during pregnancy. Progesterone, which is actively produced during this period, helps to restrain the growth of malignant cells and prevents the development of tumor processes in the endometrium.
In addition, late pregnancy can have a positive effect on the general condition of the female body. The rejuvenation processes that occur while carrying a baby affect many body systems and may also contribute to slower aging.
Despite the possible benefits, doctors emphasize that when planning a pregnancy in adulthood, it is important to take into account the individual characteristics of the body, possible risks and the need for careful medical supervision.
