  • Mobile Phones and Psychological Addiction in Children
    Опубликовано: 2025-12-01 10:10:32

Recent studies show that excessive mobile phone use can lead to psychological addiction, especially in children and adolescents. In Spain, a psychiatric institute recorded the hospitalization of two children who had difficulty managing without their phones. Both children, aged 12 and 13, spent approximately six hours daily communicating, playing games, or viewing content on their devices.

Dr. Mate Utges, director of a child psychiatric clinic near Barcelona, noted that this is the first case in her practice where treatment was focused solely on mobile addiction. The children received the phones as gifts eighteen months ago and used them without restriction until their parents noticed alarming changes in their behavior.

Symptoms of addiction included irritability, aggressiveness, fatigue, decreased interest in socializing with peers, and deteriorating academic performance. Experts emphasize that such habits can seriously impact a child's mental and emotional development.

Psychiatrists strongly advise parents to limit mobile device use and, if possible, not provide them to their children until they reach adulthood. In cases of established addiction, it is important to gradually reduce the time spent on the phone, accompanied by psychological support.

In Spain, over the past year, approximately 30% of children aged 11 to 17 were temporarily deprived of their mobile phones by their parents to reduce the risk of developing addiction. Experience shows that gradually reestablishing the habit of being without a device requires time and patience.

Modern research confirms that monitoring gadget use in childhood helps prevent psychological and social problems associated with excessive mobile phone addiction and promotes a more balanced child's development.
