  • How to care for stitches after childbirth
    Опубликовано: 2025-01-01 10:10:25

After childbirth, especially if stitches were required, it is important to pay attention to their proper care. Regardless of whether the birth was natural or by cesarean section, following the doctor's recommendations will help to avoid complications and speed up the recovery process.

    1. When stitches are applied
Stitches after natural childbirth are most often applied to heal tears in the tissues of the vagina, perineum or uterus. If the birth was carried out by cesarean section, the stitch remains on the abdominal wall. In both cases, proper care of the stitches plays a key role in successful recovery.

    2. Healing time
Small wounds heal within 2-4 weeks if all recommendations are followed. However, deeper incisions may require more time. The doctor will give precise instructions on care that will help to avoid infections and make healing less painful.

    3. Basic rules of care
Today, self-absorbable sutures are used in most cases, which do not require removal. However, hygiene rules remain mandatory. It is important to regularly treat the stitches using antiseptics recommended by the doctor, such as iodine solution or brilliant green.

    4. Hygiene and perineum care
Special attention is paid to the stitches on the perineum. Wash every two hours, as well as after each visit to the toilet. In the morning and evening, you can use an intimate hygiene product, and during the day - just warm water. After water procedures, gently dry the skin with a soft towel with movements from front to back, avoiding strong friction.

    5. Underwear and pads
Choose cotton or disposable underwear that will not squeeze the body. Change pads every two hours, regardless of their fullness, to avoid the development of infections. Avoid compression underwear until the stitches are completely healed, as it can slow down blood circulation.

    6. Additional measures for healing
After washing, try not to put on underwear for a while, allowing the skin to "breathe". Such air baths accelerate tissue healing. If you experience pain or unusual symptoms in the suture area, consult a doctor immediately to avoid complications.

The more attentive you are to your condition in the postpartum period, the faster you will return to your normal life. Remember that the health of the mother is the key to the well-being of the whole family.
