  • Overweight during pregnancy: what is important to consider
    Опубликовано: 2024-12-06 10:10:57

Pregnancy is not only a joyous event, but also significant changes in a woman's body. With the increase in weight and body volume is often associated with many inconveniences, ranging from swelling to back and leg pain. However, weight gain is a natural process in which it is important to understand the changes that occur in the body and how to control them.

The first thing to consider is normal weight gain. During the nine months of pregnancy, a woman usually gains about 12-15 pounds. This weight is distributed between the growing baby, the enlarged uterus, the placenta and amniotic fluid, and the breasts and fat stores that are needed to nourish the baby and prepare the body for lactation. All of this is a normal and natural process, and after childbirth most of this weight is gone in the first weeks and months.

However, for some women, the weight gain can be more noticeable and they gain 20 or 30 pounds. The reasons for this can vary, but most often they are related to overeating, lack of exercise, and swelling. If left unchecked, excess weight can lead to a number of problems such as varicose veins, back and joint pain, and increased health risks.

An important point to consider is food intake. During pregnancy, the body requires more energy, but that doesn't mean you have to “eat for two”. Doctors recommend adding only about 350 calories a day during the third trimester. And it often happens that women begin to lose control of appetite and reach for caloric and unhealthy foods, which leads to the accumulation of extra pounds. It is better to give preference to healthy and nutritious foods - vegetables, fruits, lean meat, fish, dairy products and nuts.

In addition, passive lifestyle can be a serious factor in weight gain. Few future moms think about the fact that pregnancy is not a disease, and many can and should continue to be active. Walking in the fresh air, swimming, pregnancy yoga or simple exercise - all of these types of activity can help not only control weight, but also improve overall health, increase energy levels and provide the body with the oxygen needed by both mom and baby.

Edema is another common problem faced by many pregnant women. The most important rule in this case is to limit the use of salt, which retains water in the body. It is also worth controlling the amount of fluid you drink and avoid diuretics, which are contraindicated in pregnancy. To cope with edema, it is important to follow the doctor's recommendations and monitor your condition.

Finally, it is important to be mindful of your body. Pregnancy is a period when a woman should take care not only of her health, but also of her appearance. The use of moisturizing creams and creams from stretch marks, regular nutrition, the choice of comfortable clothes - all this will help a woman feel comfortable and confident, despite the changes in the body. Do not forget that a beautiful body is the result not only of self-care, but also of loving yourself during this important period of life.

Pregnancy is an amazing time full of changes, but with the right approach you can avoid many problems with excess weight and stay healthy throughout the nine months.
